    Description

A pair of vintage, historic, collectible, Mid-Century ceramic Italian Spaghetti Poodle Dogs
Each ceramic pooch was hand-painted and handmade with care. These poodles were made during the Second World War (World War II) and afterwards.
The hairs were hand applied in a pottery technique called “Spaghetti Art.” Originating from Italy, this type of ceramic is called “Majolica” for its vivid glaze colors. The way the hairs were made is similar to piping icing on a cake — very meticulous and time consuming.T he faces and all of the details were hand painted. So, no two are alike, including this pair. Each dog figure is unique, making them rare and special. The faces on this pair are especially fun with the fine eyelashes.
    A bit of history:
The concept of “Spaghetti” animals  are said to have their origin from the studio of Teodoro Sebelin. Doro, as he was lovingly called, was born in 1890 to a family of ceramicist in Love, in the province of Vincenza (near Venice). He began working in his father’s studio in 1902, and opened his own studio in 1921 with partners Zarpellon and Zanolli. ZSZ grew and gained an international reputation. Doro was the sculptor and created the models — over 3000 figurines. Other studios in the area, of course, copied ZSZ's success. Among those were Perdomello brothers, Agnostella and Dal Pro, Luigi Fabris and Ronzan. The town of Nove was home to over 200 pottery studios. With the successes of the potters in Nove and Bassano, several potters in Milan also joined in. The Milano families included Cacciapuoti and the Mollica.
Each ceramic dog figurine is approximately 4-1/2" tall, 4" long and 2-1/2" deep. These dogs come in a pair, so they won't be lonely!
These figurines have a few minor imperfections due to its handmade and vintage quality with a little bit of crackling on the back of one of the dogs.
