    Medal for 70th Anniversary of Restoring Independence of Afghanistan, 1989.
    GUARANTEED ORIGINAL Medal from the period of Soviet occupation of Afghanistan – this is NOT one of the fakes that are currently coming out of Pakistan. Like the other medals issued by the Communist government of Afghanistan, the medal was made in the Soviet Union.
    The medallion is in brass, 34.0 mm wide. The medal is in VERY GOOD condition. There is dark toning to the brass which adds character and only mild wear to the raised details.  There are a few tiny dings to the edge, not detractive. The gilt finish is worn out, as is usually the case. Comes on standard Soviet suspension with a generic communist era ribbon that was often used by the Afghan award recipients on all medals.
    This medal was established less than 3 years before the collapse of Najibullah's regime in 1992, and it was probably the last of the Communist Afghan awards.
