    Description

For your consideration I have listed a commemorative belt buckle and matching hat pin set which the American Motorcycle  Association offered beginning in October of 1986 in honor of the Dodge City 300 motorcycle race.  The belt buckle in this set bears the serial number 988. The hat pin is not numbered.  This belt buckle and pin were manufactured by the Bergamot Fine Art Foundry of Delavan, Wisconsin.  The buckle is made of pewter with what appears to be brass or bronze embellishments.  Both the belt buckle and pin are brand new, come in their original black presentation cases and have never been taken out of their presentation cases except to be inspected when I first bought them from the AMA and then again when I photographed them for this listing.  The pin appears to be brass or bronze as well.  The buckle is 3" wide and 2 3/8" high.  It weighs approximately 9 ounces which has caused some wear on the box insert which holds the buckle in place.
The Dodge City 300 Buckle is #988 of 1,200 made.  The Dodge City 300 hat pin measures 7/8" by 7/8".  This buckle and pin set was made to commemorate perhaps the most famous dirt track motorcycle race in American history.  It began in 1914 on a 2 mile long dirt track just outside of Dodge City Kansas and continued through 1956 (albeit in a version reportedly shortened to 200 miles in its later years).  After the track was washed out by a flood in 1956 the race was never run again.  However, a Dodge City 300
organization was formed which planned and held a 100
    th
anniversary celebration of this famous race on July 1-6, 2014.
