Description
For your consideration is a pair of very special and unusual old rhinestone and velvet (!) shoe buckles. They are signed F. & Co. Silverite (Henry Fishel and Sons). I believe the name Silverite was put into use by Henry Fishel and Sons in 1913. I would guess these would date to sometime between 1913 and the early 20s. Henry Fishel and Sons also used the mark Fishson which I believe may have been used after the mark F. & Co., but I have been unable to find much information. The shoe clips appear to be made with a layer of velvet sandwiched between that sold back and front fretwork. I have two pairs of these made with velvet by the same company. I have never seen another pair. The velvet on this pair is a pale sage green, almost gray. Some may consider it more gray than green. It is in very good condition, amazing given the age.
The settings are very high shine silver in very nice condition with moderate expected wear visible mostly on the backs including the usual scuffing, spots, dings and scratches. The bead-set stones appear to be all original and glitter nicely though they do show age with some mild color variation including a few mildly yellowed. No missing stones. They measure about 1 7/8" wide by about 1 1/2" high.
